Role of Citizens in Combating Illiteracy

Your maid washing your dishes, you just enjoyed some hot pink sauce pasta in. Your driver, driving back at 11 pm, to his small apartment in the outskirts of the city, after dropping you at your lavish bungalow. Probabilities are that you and your househelp does the same amount of hard work but you still sip on a much more luxurious life, thanks to your Privilege!

Your privilege is you being educated and privilege, always sounds better with responsibilities. As educated individuals living in a society which is constantly trying to level up, it comes to us as our duty to help people lift up their lives.

It is important to understand that Education is a fundamental right, yet a large number of Indians are deprived of it. Education is important for the social and human development of an individual. It is a necessary life skill. And when so many are still not in power to have a hold of it, we as responsible citizens need to reach out to people and help them achieve their goals.

Here's how you can help : Participate!

Participate in conversations and discussions, participate in decision making, voice your opinions and help education reach to all.

Write letters to officials, raise awareness among people on how education can change their lives.

Participate to take education at the door steps of all. Work with NGOs. Help NGOs reach every nook and corner of where education hasn't reached. Sit down with the illiterate, teach them and bring a change!

Here's a list of NGOs you can work with :

1. Connecting Dreams Foundation

2. Make a Difference

3. Teach for India

4. The Akshay Patra Foundation

5. Pratham

6. CRY

7. Bachpan Bachao Andolan

8. Akansha Foundation

9. Bhumi

10. Deepalaya

When you educate an individual, you don't only educate an individual but a family. You help them avail a better life, better opportunities and better education to their next generation. Do not wait, this is your time to bring a change!
