"Education, not Child labour", "Books, not guns", "Opportunities, not tasks" and yes, "Love, not hatred". With the aim to bridge the gap between schools and slums, CDF-GARGI runs 'Project Kilkari', which significantly has made a great difference in a lot of lives.

With more than 60 volunteers and three different locations, Project Kilkari of Gargi Chapter has made every little effort to strengthen the relationship between the community and the underprivileged by creating a platform where knowledge could be shared.
"Didi, mujhe English bolna seekhna hai, please padha do na, mere mummy papa mujhe school me nahi daalte hain". In families where the little ones go out to work and struggle everyday to arrange for food and shelter with their parents, our initiative help these munchkins full of hope and love, heating themselves up with strenuous work, to own books and stationary in order to atleast educate them with the basics of the primary subjects.
Born to parents who have never been to school, our project also aims to help these young & deserving kids to become 'students' by doing every ounce of what it takes to get them admissions in schools along with ensuring that these kids avail to the schemes introduced by the Govt for their betterment, and this certainly not only brings smiles on the faces of these kids but also to their parents.
The lack of knowledge, majority of the times lead to low self-esteem and in times like today, there is no scope of growth for those who lack confidence and communication skills. The volunteers of Project Kilkari aims to provide these young buds, with various opportunities to learn and grow, along with fueling them with words of love and empathy.
Education is not a privilege but a right and to acknowledge the fact that even after 70+ years of Independence and a quest for development, our country is still a home to 313 million illiterate people, and Project Kilkari is one such small initiative to trim these numbers.
Our volunteers wish to obliterate Illiteracy and often feel overwhelmed to see so many kids living in such a state of poverty, that they can't afford to attend school despite having dreams of becoming Engineers, Doctors, Singers & Artists. Life, it seems is not fair but in order to genuinely create a change in the society, efforts at the ground level are required.
One day, we would surely accomplish the goal that CDF has set for Project Kilkari, 'Zero Illiteracy in the urban slums of Delhi', with our hard work and love for these children, Hum honge kamyaab ek din!
